The innovator of fractional ownership programs, NetJets is based out of both the United States and Europe. An elite member of the private jet community, NetJets offers both fractional ownership to interested parties and a card program which accommodates those who fly twenty-five hours or less a year. With a long history and solid commitment to safety and overall satisfaction by clients, NetJets has become one of the more recognized names in the private jet arena.
NetJets created the concept of fractional ownership in 1986. This innovative program gave individuals and businesses the advantages of private jet ownership while helping to keep costs lower by splitting maintenance and acquisition costs between partners. Today NetJets is the worldwide leader in fractional ownership with the largest fleet of jets and the most owners.
Taking advantage of NetJets’ fractional jet ownership program allows you the convenience, luxury and time advantages of private jet ownership, but with significantly fewer costs and without maintenance worries. NetJets is responsible for maintaining the jets – not you. This means NetJets arranges flight crews, maintains the integrity and performance of the jets, performs safety audits and more on your behalf. Your private jet can be available to you in as little as four hours.
Shares are available as small as 1/16th of a jet. This represents fifty flight hours per year. Buying a share means you buy an undivided interest in a serial numbered jet for a five year term. You can finance or lease your share as well. You buy into a jet using the number of shares that correspond to the number of hours you spend in the air every year. For one of the light jets managed by NetJets, you can buy a 1/16th share for $416,625 ( As of 2008). You’ll also be required to pay a monthly maintaince fee and an occupied hourly fee for the associated costs of actually using your jet.
NetJets does not offer the public charter services. Instead, all chartered flights are done using the Marquis Jet Card. This card is a partnership between NetJets and Marquis Jet Partners. Marquis is the owner of several aircraft and the Marquis Jet Card is a sublease of a fractional share. In essence, by obtaining a Marquis Jet Card, you’re subleasing one of Marquis’ fractional shares.
This is not a standard charter service, but works almost the same way. As a member of the card service you are entitled to twenty-five hours on one of ten aircraft types. You must give ten hours notice before taking a flight, and you can use your card interchangeably with the United States and European fleets. If you have more than fifty occupied flight hours in year, however, NetJets recommends taking advantage of fractional ownership as this is the more cost effective travel solution.
