Boeing and General Electric

In 1996, Boeing and General Electric formed a joint venture in the form of Boeing Business Jets. The aircraft manufactured as part of Boeing Business Jets are completed in Boeing Commercial Airplane Group manufacturing facilities at Renton in Washington. The planes are delivered "green" meaning without interior fittings and paint to a completion center where they are customized to a client's preferences.

The first Boeing Business Jet, or BBJ1 was released in 1998 and more than 141 BBJ models have been ordered since that time. The Boeing Business Jet is larger and more equipped than other business jets with at least two full bathrooms including showers, sleeping quarters, an office, a meeting room, dining room, lounge and crew areas.

The Boeing Business Jet 1 is based on the revamped 737-700 platform with the landing gear of the 737-800 giving the BBJ1 a full 7,000 miles of flight distance and the ability to land on as little as 6,000 feet of runway. The Boeing Business Jet 2 is larger based on the 737-800 and in 2006, the Boeing Business Jet 3 was announced in 2006 and is based on the 737-900. Even larger Boeing Business Jets have been announced and ordered based on the 787 Dreamliner.
