Honda Aircraft Company

In 2006, Honda founded Honda Aircraft Company to handle the development and sales of the company's new line of private jets. Honda has been researching private jets since 1980, but has only recently developed a private jet available for purchase. Honda's Aircraft division is located at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company.

The HondaJet is the first private aircraft to be manufactured by Honda. A prototype was built and flew in 2003 for the first time. In 2005 the plane was introduced to the public, and in 2006 the company began taking orders for the jets. The first HondaJets are to be delivered in 2010 and Honda is developing a 214,000-square-foot office and manufacturing facility to support that delivery plan.

The HondaJet is the first Honda aircraft, and already dozens of the jets have been sold to companies and consumers. The Honda-Jet has an unusual design with over-the-wing pod engines that lend to the plane's high fuel efficiency. In a typical interior set-up, it will hold five passengers and two crewmen.
